Testimonials

"The Jigsaw online RBT course has been a great addition to the training we can offer our staff both in refreshing existing skills and developing further essential knowledge. The four staff who completed the course all gained confidence and have been more effective in their ability to apply specific tactics and principles of ABA since completion of the RBT course; this has been evident in their verbal mediation data. I emphatically recommend this course to other training managers seeking to increase their team's expertise as Behavior Analysts."
Jackie Charnock
CABAS Master Teacher, Training and Development Consultant
"Doing the RBT training course has been really beneficial to me as it has provided me with the insight about ABA techniques. This has made understanding why we do certain things and following certain procedures much simpler and has made things link together to make much more sense. I have also found it very manageable to take on the course during my internship as 6 months allowed me the time to pass probation, do the course, then have 3 months left to focus on assessments."

RBT Training Provider FAQs

We believe high-quality, evidence-based training should be accessible—especially for those working in support roles that often receive little support or recognition. Our course is free because we want to remove financial barriers for individuals who want to pursue a career as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), and for organisations who need to train staff but face tight budgets and high turnover.

Unlike many providers who charge upfront regardless of whether someone finishes the training or not, our model ensures no money is wasted. We only charge a small fee after learners complete the course—if they want a BACB-compliant certificate and access to our exam preparation resources. This means you can explore the field risk-free, and only pay when you're ready to move forward with certification. It's part of our commitment to fairness, quality, and meaningful access to careers in behaviour analysis.

RBT Training Course and Certification FAQs

RBT training stands for Registered Behavior Technician training, a paraprofessional training in behavior analysis. The training provides the skills necessary to support individuals, including autistic children and adults, through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques. However, the training is not tailored specifically for autistic individuals but rather equips trainees to work with various populations using ABA.

RBT training refers to the 40-hour course that covers the fundamentals of ABA and prepares candidates to work under supervision with individuals who have developmental behavior challenges, including autism. RBT certification, on the other hand, is the formal recognition granted by the BACB after a candidate successfully completes the training, passes a Competency Assessment conducted by a BCBA, and passes the RBT exam. Certification confirms that the individual is qualified to implement ABA intervention plans under supervision. While you can complete RBT training in any country, RBT Certification is only available in some jurisdictions.

To enroll, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent and proficiency in English. Additionally, a genuine interest in helping autistic individuals and others through behavior analysis is essential.

RBT training is not autism specific, but usually takes around 40 hours to complete. However, the total time it takes can vary depending on the program you pick and how often you're able to work through the materials. Courses must be completed over a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 180. If your course competition does not meet these requirements, it will not be accepted by the BACB when you apply to become an RBT.

Absolutely! There are plenty of online options available for RBT training related to autism (including ours). These courses offer flexibility and convenience, allowing you to learn at your own pace from the comfort of your home, school, or workplace.

RBT training courses for autism cover a wide range of topics, including the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), how to use behavioral teaching strategies, ethical and professional conduct, and implementing plans to decrease behaviors that challenge. You can start learning with us today for free!

Some courses will automatically issue a certificate, while others will review your course completion content before issuing a certificate.  With Jigsaw Training, a certificate is offered following successful course review. This course review is available as part of our Certification Package ($69).

You can use this certificate as part of your application to become an RBT or to demonstrate your knowledge of ABA practices to potential employers.

While there are no specific prerequisites for RBT training aside from a high school diploma and passing a  background check, having a background in psychology, education, or related fields can be beneficial. As most RBT jobs involve working with autistic and other neurodivergent people, you'll also want to have a passion for helping people improve their lives and meet their goals!

The costs associated with RBT training can vary depending on the provider and the format of the course. Some courses cost up to $2500, however many programs (like ours!) are free. Some employers will also offer financial assistance to employees who wish to undergo RBT training.

Some reputable providers of RBT training include Jigsaw Training, our program which offers cost-effective, flexible training that will help you broaden your skillset and make a positive impact in the workplace. Our course is designed to be relevant to all potential students, including those working with autistic and other neurodivergent populations, neurotypical populations, as well as professionals in education, health, and social care.

To become certified in RBT training for autism, you'll need to complete a training program that aligns with the RBT Task List provided by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Once you've completed the training, you can undergo a competency assessment and then sit for the RBT exam to earn your certification. You can try out our RBT program here!

Choosing the best RBT training course for autism isn't always easy! Start by thinking about factors such as endorsements, course content, instructor expertise, and student reviews. Look for programs that cover all of the topics required by the BACB. Some courses require students to sit through long lectures with minimal interactivity. Others (like ours!) are designed to be completed in bite-sized chunks and have high levels of interactivity to ensure you truly learn to understand the content. It’s important to ensure that courses match your approach to learning and your lifestyle.

For RBT training, the BACB requires that applicants complete a 40-hour training program that meets the RBT Task List requirements and is conducted by a BACB certificant. These training programs are offered by various organizations and providers, but the BACB itself does not endorse, accredit, or recommend any particular course. To ensure that an RBT training course certificate will be accepted by the BACB, choose a reputable provider and ensure it aligns with BACB requirements.

If you're looking to apply for financial aid for an RBT training course for autism, start by researching scholarship opportunities offered by autism advocacy organizations, colleges, or universities. You can also talk with the training provider about any payment plans or assistance programs they offer.

To maintain your certification after completing an RBT training course for autism, you'll need to meet certain requirements set by the BACB, such as completing continuing education credits and adhering to the RBT Ethics Code. Stay engaged in the field, keep learning, and connect with other professionals to ensure you're upholding the standards of practice!

Plenty of organizations offer RBT training courses that are relevant to working with autistic and other neurodivergent people. Look for reputable providers such as colleges, universities, ABA agencies, Autism support groups, and online learning platforms like Jigsaw Training.

Anyone passionate about helping people, especially autistic individuals, and learning about ABA can register for an RBT training course. Whether you're a student, a parent, a professional in a related field, or someone looking to start a new career path, these courses are open to everyone!

Anyone looking to gain valuable skills that will help them support and educate others can benefit from taking an RBT training course. This includes students, professionals in fields such as education or psychology, parents and caregivers. It is especially beneficial for anyone interested in making a positive impact in the autism community.
