Completing RULEG exercises: Configuring Your Browser to Make your Life Easier

RULEG consolidation exercises are designed to strengthen your understanding—but they also demand precision. Minor spelling errors, inconsistent phrasing, or small mistakes can cost you credit. Thankfully, browser extensions can help reduce those small errors, making it easier to focus on learning rather than formatting or remembering what you typed in the last frame.

Below is a list of useful browser plugins to support spelling, consistency, and speed during RULEG exercises. Each includes at least one free option and works across popular browsers.

Google Chrome

  • Grammarly (Free & Premium)
Spelling, grammar, and clarity suggestions as you type. Excellent for spotting minor typos that may otherwise go unnoticed in exercises.
  • Auto Text Expander (Free)
Create shortcuts (e.g., typing “//fn” to autofill a function definition) to reduce repetition and speed up completion.

Mozilla Firefox

  • Grammarly for Firefox (Free & Premium)
All the features of Grammarly for Chrome, integrated into Firefox.
  • TypeIt (Free)
A simple and effective text expander—create your own shorthand for commonly repeated answers.

Microsoft Edge

  • Grammarly for Edge (Free & Premium)
Offers the same spelling and grammar support found in other browsers.
  • Text Blaze (Free & Premium)
Highly customisable shortcut tool for automating responses.

Safari (macOS)

  • Grammarly for Safari (Free & Premium)
Works across many input fields in Safari for spelling and grammar checking.
  • Dashlane (Free & Premium)
While primarily a password manager, it can also auto-fill text fields with saved snippets.

Opera

  • Grammarly for Opera (Free & Premium)
Requires the “Install Chrome Extensions” add-on first, but functions the same way as in Chrome.
  • PhraseExpress (Free & Premium)
Advanced text expander with robust features—installable on Opera through Windows or macOS integration.

⚠️ Note: Always check that the plugin you’re using is up to date and respects your privacy settings. For most RULEG-related tasks, free versions are sufficient.
