Verbal Behaviour Parent Training Additional Resources

This page includes a collection of videos for you to watch that delve into more detail on the topics covered in the Introductory Video. As these videos were originally created for different audiences, they may contain terms that are unfamiliar to you. Feel free to use the AI-chatbot (FRED) located in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen for assistance with any terms you do not understand.

The first video (below) is a more technical introduction to Verbal Behaviour including mands, tacts, intraverbals and echoics. We use this video as part of our training for new staff members.

Next, we will share some videos that are related to some teaching formats we use to teach listener and speaker behaviour. The first format we will look at is Discrete Trial Teaching.

The next format we will examine is Incidental Teaching. Incidental Teaching is a very useful technique to use when trying to teach someone mands or to expand upon the complexity of their mands.

The third format we will cover is Natural Environment Teaching. This involves embedding learning opportunities in routine and fun activities and can be used to teach mands, tacts, echoics, intraverbals and listener responses.

Finally, we will look at Functional Communication Training. As part of the Introductory Video, you heard about how teaching mands can be used to reduce behaviours that challenge. This video goes into more detail about how to achieve this.

Remember, you should use these techniques in collaboration with your child’s teacher and behaviour analyst. They can give you precise advice on how to best use these techniques with your child.
