Module 10 Navigation

In our final module, we address the subject of professional ethics within ABA. The final lesson in this module, will directly address the BACB’s RBT Ethics Code (2.0). The preceding lessons are designed to give you the background knowledge required to understand the purpose of the provisions within the RBT Ethics Code (2.0) and to encourage critically about the ethics of professional practice.

In Lesson 1, we begin by learning about what the term “professional ethics” means.

In Lesson 2, we’ll learn about models of disability. It is important for RBTs to understand that there are multiple models of disability and that the model adopted has significant implications for how we practice.

As RBTs most frequently work with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), Lesson 3 provides you with an introduction to the term and to two of the most common conditions within the category.

Two of the most influential movements within service provision for people with IDD have been the Normalisation Movement and Person-Centered Planning. Lesson 4 will introduce you to these concepts and explain their origins and purpose.

As you know from earlier modules, ABA professionals require client consent for interventions. However, consent and competence can be complicated concepts. Lesson 5 provides you with information you may find useful when considering matters of consent and competence.

The ethics of interventions within ABA have been written about for several decades. In this lesson, we will look at three influential articles that outline some key rights you will seek to uphold within your practice.

In your final lesson of the module and the course, we will study the RBT Ethics Code. This code will guide your practice as an RBT and our goal in this lesson is to help you understand it.

Congratulations! You have completed all modules within the Jigsaw RBT Course. Now please complete the post-test.
